Switchgrass is a warm-season perennial grass native to North America. The plant can reach heights up to 10 feet with an extensive root system. Once established, switchgrass well-managed for biomass should have a productive life of 10-20 years. Ethanol is the main liquid biofuel and can be produced from switchgrass through the two major processes- biochemical and thermochemical conversion. This webinar reviews feedstock plant availability and harvest, conversion, energy potential, investment costs, and commercial availability.
