Materials are often used to package food products for effective and efficient sale and distribution. These materials, which come into direct and indirect contact with foods, must be regulated by national agencies. Food Packaging Regulations is a course that surveys the laws and regulations governing the packaging of food products in the European Union. We examine the regulations that control use of ceramics, epoxys, cellulose, plastic, recycled materials, and BPA.

 

After completing Food Packaging Regulations (EU), students will be equipped with a basic understanding of the following:

  2. ESFA and the EU Framework Regulations
  3. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  4. Ceramics
  5. Epoxy
  6. Regenerated Cellulose Films
  7. Plastics and recycled plastic
  8. Active packaging
  9. BPA

 

This course is designed for students who possess basic chemistry and a desire to learn about basic regulations. Professionals are also encouraged to register for this course, either as a means of professional development or as a broadening experience. 

 Students will be assigned 5 homework assignments, and 1 final exam.
